The most beautiful beaches between Albufeira and Carvoeiro

Between Albufeira and Carvoeiro, about twenty kilometers of ochre cliffs shelter the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve. Here are nine of them, from east to west, with what you need to know before you go.

Praia da Coelha (Albufeira) Small cove framed by cliffs, turquoise water, only one beach bar. Limited dirt parking: come before 10 AM in summer.

Praia de São Rafael Light sand, sculpted rocks, and calm water. Family-friendly, with paid parking and nearby restaurants. Superb in the late afternoon.

Praia do Castelo Two coves connected by a staircase, intimate atmosphere, a renowned fish restaurant above. Access via a narrow road.

Praia da Galé Long stretch of sand, ideal for walking and for children who want to run. Several access points and parking lots, less crowded at the western end.

Praia Grande / Armação de Pêra The large urban beach: services, sunbeds, ice cream parlors, supervision. Convenient when traveling with teenagers.

Praia da Corredoura and Praia Nova (Armação de Pêra) Departure point for boat trips to the caves. Generous sand, water often calm in the morning.

Praia da Marinha The postcard of the Algarve: natural arches, clear water, steep stairs. Free parking but saturated from 9:30 AM in summer. Come early, stay for the light.

Praia de Benagil Small village beach, starting point for the famous cave (accessible only by sea, by boat, kayak, or paddle with a service provider). Difficult parking.

Praia do Carvalho and Praia de Vale Centeanes (Carvoeiro) Carvalho is reached via a tunnel dug into the rock; Vale Centeanes is wider, with decent parking and easier access. Both are splendid in October.

Three tips - The Seven Hanging Valleys Trail connects Marinha to Vale Centeanes: 6 km of cliffs, to be done in the morning with water. - Cove beaches are more sheltered from the west wind, frequent in the afternoon in spring. - Check the flag: currents exist, especially off-season when lifeguard stations are not staffed.
