Orange groves, a medieval castle and total quiet
Fifteen minutes from the beaches of Albufeira, Paderne opens onto another Algarve: almond and orange hills, walking trails, old mills and a 12th-century Moorish castle above the Quarteira river. The village keeps its own pace, with cafés, a small church and traditional restaurants.
It suits quiet holidays in a villa with a pool, for travellers who want the beach without the noise. Supermarkets in Ferreiras and the A22 motorway are 10 minutes away, Faro 35 minutes.

The trail from the village leads to the Almohad castle ruins and the medieval bridge: 1.5 hours return.

Waymarked inland trails are rideable all year, spectacular in February when the almond trees blossom.
